Super-inclusive vs plus-super offers

Offers are written in two ways. “$95,000 plus super” means the employer pays super on top of that salary. “$105,000 including super” (often called a package or total remuneration) means super comes out of that figure.

In the default example, offer B looks $10,000 higher, but its base salary is $93,750.00, so offer A pays $850.00 more take-home pay a year and is worth $1,000.00 more once super is counted.

Some employers pay more than the 12% super guarantee. A $92,000 salary with 15.4% super gives $14,168.00 of super a year, against $11,400.00 on $95,000 at 12%. Enter each offer’s rate to compare them fairly.

Frequently asked questions

Is a package that includes super worse than salary plus super?

For the same headline number, yes. $105,000 including 12% super is a base salary of $93,750.00, while $95,000 plus super is $95,000.00 with $11,400.00 on top. Always compare base salaries, or packages, on the same footing.

Why compare take-home pay per hour?

Because a higher salary for longer hours can pay less for each hour you actually work. The per-hour figure divides take-home pay by your weekly hours times the weeks you work, which is 52 less paid annual leave.

Does the calculator include bonuses?

No. Bonuses, overtime and allowances vary, so add any that are guaranteed to the salary of that offer, and treat the rest as a possible extra.
