Casual loading
Casual employees are not paid for annual leave or personal leave. Instead they receive a casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. For casuals on the National Minimum Wage the loading is 25%; if an award or enterprise agreement covers you, it sets your casual rate.
From 1 July 2026 the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 an hour, so the minimum casual rate for an adult on it is $33.05 an hour.
For example, a $30.00 base rate becomes $37.50 with the loading. Over 38 hours that is $1,425.00 a week before tax, compared with $1,140.00 without it. Many casual rates are quoted with the loading already included; if yours is, leave “Add 25% casual loading” unticked.
Weekend, night and public holiday penalty rates are not included. To check the rates that apply to your job, use the Fair Work Ombudsman’s minimum wages information.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate weekly pay from a salary?
Divide the annual salary by 52. On $80,000 that is $1,538.46 a week before tax. After income tax and the Medicare levy for 2026–27, it comes to $1,234.62 a week, and your employer would withhold $311.00 from each weekly pay under the ATO’s weekly tax table. Choose “Salary” in the calculator to try your own figure.
Is weekly pay taxed differently?
No. Your tax for the year depends only on your total taxable income, not on how often you are paid. Each week your employer withholds tax using the ATO’s weekly formulas, which round to the whole dollar, so the total withheld can differ a little from your actual tax; the difference is settled when you lodge your tax return.
In a year with 53 weekly paydays, the formulas still assume 52, so you can ask your employer to withhold a little extra each week. The ATO’s suggested amounts are $3, $7 or $12 a week, depending on your earnings.
